| Message from the President
On the April 2008, three of the key appointment holders in the executive committee decided not to be elected due to health and personal reason. As the result, the executive committee has to go through a major facelift. I would like to take this opportunity to thank three of them namely, Mr. Phoon Ah Sow, Mr. Yeo Ah Tee and Mr. Mah Chew Fun for their tremendously effort. Their leadership has guided the association through many good years. Recently, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has just completed its review on the 1996 white paper on "A" world class Land Transport System. It was decided that the growth rate of total vehicle population has been reduced from 3% to 1.5%. Therefore, the motorcycles population willb be reduced tremendously. The situation got worse as 25% of our motorcycles scraped quota will go to open category which has been used only by car registrations. On the road safety issues, motorcyclists have been a group of road users who are especially vulnerable on the roads, accounting for more than half of the number of road fatalities for the past few years. SMCTA has taken very serious view on that matter, not forgetting working closely with Traffic Police, to promote safe riding among motorcyclists. On top of that, SMCTA is also member of FAMI (Federation of Asian Motorcycles Industries) where regular meetings have been held to look into the safety aspects of motorcycles. Looking forwards, there are many problems to work on. With the support from our executive committee and our fellow members, I am confident that we can overcome all these obstacles. Our primary objective shall always be, to pursue the interest and welfare of our motorcycles traders.
Thank you
Wilson Phoon SMCTA President
